When It Rains On Christmas Day

about

For the 11th year in a row Swedish folk/americana artist Sofia Talvik is keeping up her tradition of releasing a free Christmas single. ’When it Rains on Christmas Day’ won’t fill you with that cheery ’Jingle Bells’ Christmas feeling. Quite the opposite, Sofia stays true to her tradition to explore the darker side of the Holiday.

Soft keys and soaring pedal steel guitar bring the melody forward and lift Sofia’s voice as the true feature of the song. Things don’t always end the way you picture them, or the way you would wish them to. Looking out from that window on Christmas Day, will it be a winter-wonder-land or a dark rainy day? Will you be with your loved one, or will you be alone?

The lyrics carry the story forward as the song culminates in a carol-like chorus bringing us all the way back in to the churches of the old days with their towering ceilings filled with music. This tasteful production will remind you of Ryan Adam’s Shadowlands and bring your thoughts to Kate Bush’s etherial piano songs, like ’This Woman’s Work’.

Lyrics:
When it rains on Christmas day

I left it here for you to find
the damage of a broken mind
I didn’t know just what to say
like when it rains on Christmas day

I couldn’t make you feel alright
I couldn’t even hold you tight
I didn’t ask you once to stay
and now it rains on Christmas day

A love like ours is hard to find
it burns you till you’re deaf and blind
You have it all but you want more
you grind it till you reach the core

You told me once you hate the rain
It’s verse and verse and no refrain
I hope that where you are today
it doesn’t rain on Christmas day

If only you could hear me now
I’d tell you all will be alright
I’ll make it snow, I’ll find a way
and it will never rain again
on Christmas day

She is a veteran performer with 8 original full length albums as well as numerous EPs, singles and tours behind her. ... more
